AIM、Alcatraz、Trail of Broken Treaties、Wounded Knee

National Museum of the American IndianはDennis Banks、Clyde Bellecourt、Vernon Bellecourt、Russell Meansらを創設者として挙げています。

1969年11月、Indians of All Tribesを名乗るNative activistsがSan Francisco BayのAlcatraz Islandを占拠しました。

AIM、Indians of All Tribes、National Indian Youth Councilなど複数のorganizationがTrail of Broken Treatiesを組織し、西海岸などからcaravanで首都へ向かいました。

DRUMS、Determination of Rights and Unity for Menominee Stockholdersを組織し、restoration campaignを進めました。

fish-inを続けたtribal fishers、National Indian Youth Council、National Congress of American Indians、reservation leaders、urban Native organizations、lawyers、women organizers、students、religious leaders、local tribal governmentsなど多くの主体が異なる方法で政策を動かしました。

Red Power

American Indian and Alaska Native peoplesはUnited States citizensであると同時に、federally recognized tribesではtribal nationsのcitizensでもあります。

Termination Era

Pacific Northwest Fish Wars

1850年代のStevens treatiesなどはtribesがreservation外の「usual and accustomed grounds and stations」でも漁を続ける権利を留保しました。

Poor People’s Campaign

Martin Luther King Jr.が構想したPoor People’s CampaignにはNative American activistsも参加しました。

NPSによればNational Indian Youth CouncilのTillie Walker、Mel Thom、fish-in organizerのHank AdamsらがCommittee of 100へ加わり、WashingtonでNative demandsを提示しました。

Indian Civil Rights Act

American Indian Movement

National Museum of the American IndianはDennis Banks、Clyde Bellecourt、Vernon Bellecourt、Russell Meansらを創設者として挙げ、police violence、discrimination、poverty、treaty rights、cultural preservationを主要問題として記録しています。

urban Native peopleがdisproportionately arrested or mistreatedされているというcommunity complaintsを受け、membersが警察活動を監視しました。

Native activistsはAfrican American Civil Rights Movementからmarch、sit-in、occupation、media strategyを学びました。

Alcatraz

Alcatraz occupation

1969年11月20日、Indians of All TribesのactivistsがAlcatrazへ上陸し、長期occupationを開始しました。

occupiersはelected councilを作り、security、sanitation、day care、school、housing、cooking、laundryなどの仕事を分担しました。

Indians of All TribesはAlcatrazにAmerican Indian university、cultural center、museumを作る構想を提示しました。

administrationはtribal control of education、federally funded programs、credit、BIA structureなどの改革を提案しました。

Trail of Broken Treaties

AIM、National Indian Youth Council、Indians of All Tribesなど複数organizationsがTrail of Broken Treatiesを組織しました。

Twenty-Points Position Paper

Trail

Pine Ridge

Wounded Knee occupation

National Museum of the American Indianはoccupationを71-day protestとして記録し、tribal chairman Richard Wilsonへの反対とUnited States governmentによるNative peoplesへの長期的なmistreatmentを主要背景に挙げています。

Menominee Restoration

Ada DeerとDRUMS

Determination of Rights and Unity for Menominee Stockholders、DRUMSを組織し、tribal assetsのdevelopment計画へ反対しながらfederal status restorationを求めました。

Boldt Decision

1974年2月、federal district judge George H. BoldtはUnited States v.

NOAA Fisheriesによれば、1850年代treatiesの「in common with」languageはtreaty tribesがusual and accustomed fishing areasへ戻るharvestable fishの50 percent shareを得ることを意味すると判断されました。

Red Power

Indian Self-Determination Act

1975年1月4日、President Gerald FordはIndian Self-Determination and Education Assistance Act、Public Law 93-638へ署名しました。

National Indian Youth Council、Survival of American Indians Association、Indians of All Tribes、tribal governments、National Congress of American Indians、DRUMSなど多数のorganizationsが活動しました。
